I might be slightly (or very) biased, as there is a huge element of nostalgia attached to this film, after seeing it back in the early 80's when everything about it was cool. Watching it again recently, I can see just how bad some aspects of it were, (to some anyway), such as the painted backgrounds, the dodgy special effects, the cheesy dialogue, however, I still find this one of the best fantasy films I've ever seen. From the very opening scene where the camera follows the horses legs as it slowly walks through the mist strewn trees, and the brilliant music that accompanies this, giving us a real sense of foreboding, I still find it spine tingling today as a 50 plus old man. And as the camera pans up to show us the slightly hunched figure of Voltan in his dark attire and metal helmet, i can't help but get sucked in to this movie all over again, despite its many faults. I guess you could call it a guilty pleasure, so you may want to take that into account when you consider my overall score!
There is somewhat of a story there, and it unfolds as the film progresses
Terry Marcel did a terrific job!
There is some pretty good acting hiding in here, considering how bad some of the script was. Jack Palance steals the show as Voltan.
Loved the synth sound track and other pieces and effects.
None to speak of. The film was mainly shot in a forest in thick fog. Though some distant shots of painted backgrounds were nice and added to the flavour
This was 1980, and considering they were on a shoestring budget I thought the effects were quite good, with a mixture of fantasy-esque glows and laser type things, and tons of smoke..
There was a fair amount of action though it was a bit cheap, and badly choreographed. However, whenever that elven archer let loose on his bow I was happy.
